The only thing I can relatively manage in CG is animation. That's why I've always relied on free rigs you can find on the internet. I discovered the Norman rig that I found excellent. It has been released by the Academy of Art University Pixar classes when it was discontinued. The official release page is here.
Then one day I saw some animations with rigs that looked like Norman but had been customized. I realized you could create some great caracters by modifying the Norman rig. Here are the links to some usefull hints for creating your own Norman:
So inspired by discussions on the 11 second Club forum, I decided to create a Norman database where people could download Norman models that other users uploaded. I have always been very fond of the "open source" attitude in the engeneering world, and I have found that same mentality with free rigs. I hope this database will be usefull.
Just clic on a group to see the available Normans and right clic on the Norman you want to download and choose "save as". Clicking on the creators name will send you to their site (if they included one). You can upload your own Norman in the upload section.
ATTENTION : There's been a recurrent problem for rendering some Normans. The head and some other elements don't seem to render. So here's the solution :
Select the geometry and open up the attribute editor and go to "render stats", if primary visibility isn't checked on check it on.
